Britain’s centrist and centre-right opposition parties propose working together to defeat the sell-out deal concocted by the Labour government to hand the Chagos Islands over to China’s ally, Mauritius, at great expense.

Engineered by ‘disgraceful’ UK Attorney General Lord Hermer, the deal would give away the islands to a state which has a weak historical claim on the territory, while obliging the UK to pay an extortionate price to lease back parts of Chagos for military use. The Chagos Islanders—campaigning around the control of the Archipelago well prior to Keir Starmer’s ‘reparations’-themed ouvertures to the Indian Ocean state—will still be denied sovereignty, while China is likely delighted.

Both Kemi Badenoch and Nigel Farage are sponsoring the motion, which reads:

That the Agreement, done at London and Port Louis on 22 May 2025, between the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the Government of the Republic of Mauritius concerning the Chagos Archipelago including Diego Garcia, should not be ratified.

To date, the motion has 82 supporters. It is unclear whether this initiative will lead to further collaboration between the Tories and Reform UK.
