U.S. president Donald Trump has discussed a range of potential military actions in Iran, including the possible seizure of Kharg Island, the country’s main oil export hub—and an operation to extract uranium.

According to reports from the Financial Times and Wall Street Journal,Trump said that taking control of Iranian oil would be his “favourite thing,” adding that U.S. forces could seize Kharg Island “very easily” and that multiple options are under consideration. He noted that indirect talks between the U.S. and Iran, facilitated by Pakistan, are ongoing, though he did not comment on a potential ceasefire.

The Wall Street Journal reported that Trump is also weighing up a mission to extract 1,000 pounds of uranium from Iran. Such an operation would likely require U.S. forces to remain inside the country for a lengthy period of time. Officials cited by the Journal said the plan is still under review but could help prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons.

Meanwhile, an additional 3,500 U.S. troops have arrived in the Middle East, where tensions continue to escalate.
