Donald Trump left the G7 summit in Canada early on Monday to deal with what he called a “much bigger” crisis unfolding in the Middle East, warning civilians in Tehran to evacuate immediately.
The U.S. president’s sudden exit came after he refused to back an initial joint statement seen as too soft on Iran. Trump ultimately secured stronger language that declared Tehran the “principal source of regional instability and terror” and affirmed Israel’s right to defend itself.
In a scathing rebuke on Truth Social, Trump slammed French President Emmanuel Macron for suggesting he had left to push for a ceasefire. “Wrong!” Trump wrote. “He has no idea why I am now on my way to Washington … Much bigger than that.”
Trump also warned that Iran “should have signed the deal,” urging civilians to leave Tehran amid fears of escalation following Israel’s strike on Iranian military targets.
White House officials denied reports of U.S. airstrikes but confirmed Trump had ordered a full National Security Council briefing on arrival.
Throughout the summit, Trump clashed with allies over sanctions on Russia and took a lone stance on Middle East policy—turning the G7 into what some called a G6+1.
