U.S. President Donald Trump has warned that the United States will bomb Iranian infrastructure if Tehran continues attacking ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump said every Iranian strike on commercial shipping would be met by the destruction of an Iranian bridge or power plant, while confirming the U.S. military is continuing strikes against Iranian targets.
“Any time the Islamic Republic of Iran shoots at a ship in the Strait of Hormuz, whether it be by Missile, Rocket, Drone, or any other device or weapon, the United States will bomb and destroy ONE BRIDGE OR POWER PLANT,” he wrote on social media.
The warning comes after Iran resumed attacks in the Strait following the collapse of a preliminary US-Iran agreement, escalating tensions and driving oil prices higher. Tehran has also launched attacks against U.S.-linked targets in Gulf states, while Washington says its operations are aimed at protecting maritime security and degrading Iran’s military capabilities.
Despite the escalation, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Washington remains open to negotiations if Iran returns to the table.
