A 31-year-old man from Tunisia is standing trial in Berlin on charges of severely abusing, imprisoning, and raping his former partner. Defendant Bassem BF has been in pre-trial detention since December 2024.

Since 2022, when he left his family behind in Tunisia, Bassem has been living in Germany. According to information from investigators, he has previously been convicted of drug trafficking and currently appears to have no official employment in the country.

The alleged victim is a 29-year-old mother of three children. Although she was summoned as a witness, she did not appear at the hearing. According to the charges, the man not only beat and imprisoned his former partner, but also cut her hair and sexually abused her.

Bassem denies all charges and stated in court that “the woman is nothing but trouble.” He claims that his former partner has repeatedly made false accusations against men and is prone to self-harm.

If convicted, Bassem BF will join a long line of Tunisians with criminal convictions in Germany.
