On July 1st, the White House announced it would halt several key weapons shipments to Ukraine that had been pledged by the previous U.S. administration to support the fight against Russia. The Kremlin welcomed the move, saying a reduction in arms deliveries to Kyiv could help bring the conflict to a swifter conclusion.
“In any case, the fewer the number of weapons that are delivered to Ukraine, the closer the end of the special military operation,” Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
Ukraine, meanwhile, warned that any delay or hesitation in bolstering its defence capabilities would only embolden Russia to prolong the war.
The aid cuts come at a critical moment for Ukraine, which has endured weeks of heavy Russian bombardment and is steadily losing ground along the front line. A senior Ukrainian military official said Kyiv would find it difficult to hold off Russian forces without U.S. ammunition.
“We are now seriously dependent on American arms supplies, although Europe is doing its best, it will be difficult for us without American ammunition,” the source said.
