Air defense systems were activated across the Emirates, intercepting a series of Iranian-launched drones as the Middle East war threatens to reignite.

Friday May 8th saw the fragile ceasefire between the United States and Iran faced its most severe test to date.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Ministry of Defense confirmed that its air defenses are actively engaging with a wave of missile and drone attacks originating from Iranian territory, with interceptions heard across the federation.

The escalation follows a self-defense operation by the U.S. Navy, which struck Iranian military facilities on Qeshm Island after three American destroyers came under fire in the Strait of Hormuz.

While U.S. president Donald Trump characterized the strikes as a “love tap” and insisted a peace deal mediated by Pakistan could come any day, he simultaneously warned Tehran that failure to sign would result in a lot of pain.

Meanwhile, the global economy remains in a state of high alert as Iran formalizes its chokehold on the Strait through the newly created Persian Gulf Strait Authority.
