According to leaked documents revealed by The Spectator, a Green Party proposal would oblige employers in Britain to grant three extra days of paid leave each month to “workers who menstruate.” The scheme, totalling 36 days a year, would not require a doctor’s note for standard menstrual leave, nor would it count as sickness absence or deduct from annual holiday.
Submitted by male party member Allan McLeod, a trade union representative and trans activist, the motion uses gender-neutral language and would be enshrined in the party’s ‘Policies for a Sustainable Society.’
It comes amid Green leader Zack Polanski’s efforts to bolster the party’s economic credentials. Critics have highlighted the potential burden on businesses. No word on whether men believing themselves to be women ought to be able to avail themselves of the extra leave has been forthcoming.
