Amid rising pressure to address illegal migration, the UK PM plans to shift asylum-seeking military-age males from hotels to disused military sites.

The UK government plans to move illegal Channel crossers from migrant hotels to disused army barracks as part of an effort to address the growing migrant crisis, with Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood expected to announce the policy soon.

The UK is close to a migrant return deal with Germany after agreeing one with France. Prime Minister Starmer reshuffled the Home Office after appointing Shabana Mahmood as Home Secretary. On her first day, over 1,000 migrants crossed the Channel, but figures for ‘small boat’ crossings have already hit new records under Starmer

A source close to Ms. Mahmood told the Telegraph

Her position is going to be ‘nothing is off the table’ … We know the big problems that we face.

“Bringing down net migration and tackling illegal migration is one of the public’s key priorities and it’s one of our key priorities,” another source told the newspaper.

Since Keir Starmer took office, illegal Channel crossings have continued unabated.
