A massive overnight Ukrainian drone attack targeting Moscow and its surrounding territory has left ten people wounded and ignited multiple fires, Russian officials reported on Monday, July 20.
Moscow mayor Sergei Sobyanin stated that more than 400 ‘enemy drones’ were launched toward the capital region between Sunday evening and Monday morning. In the town of Domodedovo, near a major Moscow airport, seven people—including three Chinese nationals—were injured when a drone struck a residential building and ignited a fire at a local industrial park.
Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskiy confirmed the operation, stating that Kyiv’s forces successfully targeted Russian logistical facilities and an oil depot in the vicinity of Moscow. Further south, along the Ukrainian border, the governor of the Belgorod region reported that another drone strike killed one person and injured four others in a frontier village. Meanwhile, the Russian Defence Ministry claimed that its air defense systems neutralized 381 Ukrainian UAVs overnight across various regions, including the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov, with 85 destroyed on their approach to the capital.
The overnight assault also prompted the temporary evacuation of a major logistics center operated by Wildberries, Russia’s largest online retailer, in the Podolsk district of the Moscow region. This precautionary measure follows a lethal drone strike on Saturday, July 18 that killed seven Wildberries warehouse workers and injured dozens more. Kyiv has previously accused the retail giant of distributing military supplies to support Russia’s war effort, making its distribution network a key target for Ukrainian forces seeking to disrupt Russian supply chains.
