Belgian media reports this morning that according to Defence Minister Theo Francke, several drones have been spotted above the Marche-en-Famenne (MEF) military base.
Francken said on X on Wednesday that “multiple drones” flying over “crucial parts” of the base were noticed by guards on Saturday, October 25th.
In a later post, he said added: “Last night, multiple drones were spotted again above MEF. Procedures followed. Police and [Belgian military intelligence agency] Adiv are conducting an investigation.” The minister declared
This was a clearly orchestrated operation against the heart of our army.
The military has not yet determined where the UAVs came from, Francken told Belgian outlet Het Laatste Nieuws, adding he would be urging the government to acquire drone detection systems as soon as possible, as well as weaponry to shoot devices down.
Drones were spotted above the Elsenborn base in Belgium in early October, and last month drones also flew over Denmark’s largest military base, with several European airports suspending air traffic as a consequence.
