“It was a dishonest thing to lead Ukraine to believe that they could defeat Russia,”stated Marco Rubio, the United States’ new Secretary of State, on the Megyn Kelly Show.
The interview also touched on Rubio’s former senatorial role and the tragic plane crash in Washington. At one point the discussion turned to the war in Ukraine, on which the Secretary made no secret of his strong views. The reporter noted that Republican politicians take the view that too much money has already been spent supporting Ukraine, and that it is time to accept the fact that Ukraine has lost the war and will not regain the lost territories.
It was dishonest to convince the Ukrainians that they would not only be capable of defeating the Russians who attacked them, but could “destroy them and push them all the way back to where they were in 2012 or 2014, before they occupied Crimea.”
He added that, in his opinion, the consequence of this baseless delusion has been that over the past year and a half the United States has been financing a stalemate that has only prolonged the suffering of the people.
“Meanwhile, Ukraine is being thrown back a hundred years; their energy network is being wiped out. Someone will have to pay for the reconstruction afterwards.”
