The university canceled a planned interview with Vlaams Belang leader Tom van Grieken, saying the event’s scale and potential impact exceeded what it could responsibly manage.

The University of Amsterdam has canceled an interview with right-wing Vlaams Belang leader Tom Van Grieken, following concerns regarding safety and public impact. The conversation was scheduled to take place at the Roeterseiland campus and was organized by the debate platform Room for Discussion.

According to the parties involved, the projected impact of the event was deemed too great. Van Grieken was to be interviewed about his political vision and his party’s well-known firm stance on migration.

The university confirmed that a broad assessment led to the decision:
