As his party leads the polls, the Freedom Party leader has resumed campaigning—despite recent jihadist terror plans.

Dutch right-wing politician  Geert Wilders has returned to the campaign trail after briefly suspending public appearances due to an alleged jihadist-inspired murder plot in Belgium.

Belgian authorities recently arrested three suspects accused of planning drone-based attacks on political figures. Wilders said he was also a target and subsequently cancelled several TV and radio debates.

Wilders’ Freedom Party (PVV)—which won the 2023 elections—is currently leading in the polls. However all major parties have ruled out forming a government with him, making it unlikely he will become prime minister.

Under police protection for two decades due to repeated death threats, Wilders said he no longer knows “the feeling of personal freedom.”
