Following attacks on January 24, 1,676 apartment buildings in Kyiv were left without heating while repair crews struggled to restore electricity and warmth—due to ongoing UAV strikes and sub-zero temperatures.

Russian attacks have left more than 1,600 apartment buildings in Kyiv without heat, as repeated strikes and freezing conditions hinder repair efforts. In response, Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky is pressing allies for urgent air defence support.

Over the weekend of January 24–25th, Zelensky emphasised that, in just the past week, Russian forces had launched more than 1,700 attack drones, 1,380 guided bombs, and 69 missiles, overwhelming the country’s air defences amid particularly harsh winter conditions.

During his visit to Vilnius, Zelensky attended a ceremony commemorating the 1863 Polish-Lithuanian uprising against Tsarist Russia, drawing parallels between historical struggles for freedom and Russia’s current aggression. Polish president Karol Nawrocki and Lithuanian leaders—strong supporters of Kyiv—highlighted that lessons from history can help confront today’s security challenges. Both countries recently sent hundreds of generators to Kyiv to assist with the humanitarian situation.

U.S.-mediated peace talks between Russia and Ukraine ended on Saturday, January 24th without a breakthrough. Zelensky described the discussions as “constructive” and said both sides agreed to continue negotiations next week in Abu Dhabi in an effort to end the nearly four-year-long war.
