As we reported, at least four people, including a 12-year-old child, were killed after Russia launched a barrage of drones and missiles against several Ukrainian cities overnight on Saturday, with Kyiv as the main target. It was the first major bombardment of the capital since last month’s air strike, which claimed nearly two dozen lives.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the “savage strikes” in a post on X, saying nearly 500 drones and more than 40 missiles were used during the large-scale assault, which lasted more than 12 hours. “The main targets of the enemy strikes were Kyiv and the regions of Zaporizhzhia, Khmelnytskyi, Sumy, Mykolaiv, Chernihiv, and Odesa … At least 40 people are known to have been injured across Ukraine, including children,” he wrote.

Zelensky stressed that the timing of the strikes—coming just after the week of the UN General Assembly—was a deliberate show of Russia’s true stance. He also accused Moscow of “profiting from the continuation of the war” through its energy revenues and vowed to keep fighting to weaken Russia’s military capabilities.
The Ukrainian president also called on the international community to back U.S. President Donald Trump’s plan to bring Russia to the negotiating table and end its invasion, now in its fourth year.
