The German establishment has already shown the public that it is willing to commit crime to limit the AfD’s ability to govern—that is, to abuse democracy so as to ‘defend democracy.’
So it’s not much of a stretch to say that it also believes arson attacks against the anti-mainstream party to be “ultimately good.”
That is according to Hamburg-based AfD politician Bernd Baumann, whose car was burnt down outside his house in the early hours of Morning morning in what he described as an “Antifa attack against me.” State security officials are also investigating the incident as a politically motivated act by the Left. And not the first—Baumann claims his house is “repeatedly targeted.”

While an attack of this kind against the CDU or CSU, or indeed the SPD or the Greens, would undoubtedly prompt a wave of condemnations from mainstream politicians and papers, the right-wing Junge Freiheit publication noted on Wednesday that “no other party condemns the act of terrorism” against the AfD.
Baumann told the paper that this was because “ultimately, a so-called ‘fight against the Right’ is endorsed by all parties represented in the Bundestag as a defence of ‘our democracy.’”
If there had been an arson attack on the car of a politician from the Greens, the SPD, the Left Party or the CDU/CSU, there would have been special broadcasts on ARD and ZDF and a topical debate in the Bundestag.
AfD official Dr. Malte Kaufmann added that the silence from the mainstream was “really outrageous,” asking:
How far have the established parties fallen that they can’t even muster solidarity over their lips in the face of arson attacks and death threats and clearly condemn the far-left extremist violence?
Is this OUR democracy?
Three other cars were completely burnt out during the attack.
