Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni marks three years in office this week. Her administration stands out for a number of reasons, not least because she is the country’s first female PM, but in particular for its longevity, uncharacteristic of Italian governments in the past.
Her party, Fratelli d’Italia, is the most popular in the country, consistently polling above 26%.
As seen in recent regional elections, Italian voters are clearly rewarding Meloni who has proven to be consistent in her policies, being one of the few European leaders who has stood up for Israel, and who opted for common sense approaches to gender ideology and mass immigration.
She is also on excellent terms with U.S. president Donald Trump, who has praised her on a number of occasions and considers her one of his chief allies in Europe.
During her latest visit to the U.S., speaking at the National Italian American Foundation’s 50th Anniversary Gala in Washington, D.C. on October 18th, Meloni also criticized attempts to erase cultural traditions, stating
Columbus Day is here to stay.
She declared that attempts to cancel the holiday in the U.S. are part of a broader effort by “woke” culture to divide nations and erase shared traditions.
Meloni noted that “There are forces seeking to divide us, to redefine our history, and to destroy our shared traditions.”
The Italian PM also praised the Italian American community, highlighting their contributions to building modern America and underscoring the importance of the economic ties between Italy and the United States. “Together, the United States and Italy are not just allies. We are the two pillars of the free world,” she said.
Trump shared a video of Meloni on his social media platform, Truth Social, praising her leadership and her efforts to strengthen Italy-U.S. relations.
