Prime Minister Viktor Orbán emphasized Hungary’s sovereignty, saying, “We will not allow our national colors to be replaced by Ukrainian or rainbow flags.”

Tens of thousands of Hungarians gathered on Sunday in Budapest for the largest Peace March in Hungarian history, a march supporting Hungary’s sovereignty.

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán delivered the main speech at Kossuth Square, emphasizing his commitment to defending Hungary’s national achievements. “We will not allow our national colors to be replaced by Ukrainian or rainbow flags,” Orbán stated. He pledged to protect key social and economic policies, including energy price cuts, pensions, the family support system, and one of Europe’s best tax systems.

“We will defend mothers, protect our children, and ensure that what we have built over the past sixteen years is not taken away,” he added.

The event also featured speeches by key Fidesz and KDNP leaders. Minister of Foreign Affairs Péter Szijjártó addressed the crowd, declaring: “What is happening in Ukraine is not our war. We will not send a single soldier or youth to the Ukrainian front. As long as Viktor Orbán is prime minister, Hungarian money will not go to Ukraine, and Ukraine will never join the European Union.”

Szijjártó highlighted that Hungary faces pressure and threats from both Brussels and Kyiv but emphasized the government’s determination to maintain national sovereignty.

Minister of Development and Transport János Lázár urged citizens to participate in the upcoming elections, stating: “We are more numerous, but that is not enough. We must also be present at the polling stations, because every majority counts only as much as it is demonstrated at the ballot box.”

Lázár stressed the importance of protecting Hungary’s economy, families, and security from foreign interference, warning that opposition figures like Péter Magyar would risk the country’s stability.

Rákay Philip, who welcomed participants, noted: “Red, white, and green filled the Carpathian Basin today. Red symbolizes strength and heroic bloodshed, white represents freedom and the purity of patriotism, and green stands for hope.”

President Tamás Sulyok, speaking in Kézdivásárhely, emphasized the symbolic meaning of March 15: “It is the celebration of freedom and the unity of Hungarians, when millions speak and think as one under the red, white, and green cockades and flags.”

On March 15th, Hungarians commemorate the outbreak of the 1848 Revolution and War of Independence against the Habsburg Empire. This national holiday honors the historic struggle for freedom, democratic rights, and national sovereignty.

Orbán concluded his speech with a message of resilience and continuity: “We have our own roadmap. Fidesz will win. Peace will remain, energy prices will stay low, and wages will rise. Everyone who works will benefit, families will be strong, and even those who did not vote for us will fare well.”
