So-called ‘progressive’ leftists and migrants across Europe and North America openly celebrated over the weekend after Hamas militants, in an unprecedented incursion out of Gaza, rampaged through communities in Israel, killing some 700 people, injuring thousands, and taking dozens of hostages.
Reports and video footage of people celebrating barbaric attacks by Hamas against Israel across Germany, the UK, Sweden, Greece, the U.S., and Canada have emerged and are circulating across social media networks.
In the multicultural High-Deck-Siedlung neighborhood in Berlin, riots that reportedly saw Arab youths attack police officers with slabs of pavement and other projectiles erupted after a pro-Palestinian demonstration and resulted in the injuries of two officers. Security forces arrested 40 rioters.
Celebrations were also witnessed across other districts in Berlin, including the borough of Neukölln, known for its large immigrant population which makes up nearly half the borough’s residents. Police say approximately 50 people gathered for the pro-Palestinian demonstration on Saturday night.
Amid the pro-Hamas protests, Germany’s increasingly unpopular chancellor Olaf Scholz, whose party has long supported sending tens of millions of euros in aid to Palestinian territories, assured Israel that “Germany stands firmly and unwaveringly by Israel’s side in the face of this terrible attack.”
“Israel’s security is in the interest of the German state. This is especially true in difficult times like these. And we will act accordingly,” said Scholz, calling the attacks by Hamas “barbaric.”
In light of the tens of millions of euros the German government has sent to Palestinian territories, as well as the millions of Islamist migrants it has allowed to settle in Germany over the years, David Engels, a Belgian historian living in Poland, called Berlin’s decision to illuminate the Israeli flag on the Brandenburg Gate the “ultimate symbol of hypocrisy, opportunism, and impotence.”
Across the UK, in London, Manchester, and Brighton, pro-Hamas crowds gathered en masse to celebrate the onslaught.
The Metropolitan Police noted that they were “aware of a number of incidents including those that have been shared on social media, in relation to the ongoing conflict in Israel,” and that in response to receiving reports of people celebrating Hamas’ attack on Israel, they would increase patrols across London.
Palestinians and other Middle Eastern migrants living at a migrant camp on the Greek island of Samos were filmed cheering on Hamas’ attacks against Israel. Many were heard chanting “Allah Akbar” as they celebrated.
Sweden also saw pro-Hamas demonstrators gather in its cities to celebrate. In Malmo, a city where 37% of the population has a foreign background, a car caravan of Palestinians and other migrants took over the streets on Saturday, traveling from the immigrant neighborhood of Rosengård to central Malmö.
According to the police, around 200 vehicles, from many of which Palestinian music played, Palestinian flags were waved, and horns honked, took part in the demonstration, Samnytt reported.
Swedish and Norwegian media reported that similar pro-Hams demonstrations took place in Stockholm, Kristianstad, and Helsingborg. Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson called the celebration of “terrorists who kill innocent people in Israel grotesque.”
Across the Atlantic, pro-Palestinian and pro-Israeli protesters faced off in New York City’s Times Square, chanting slogans at one another. New York City police officers were forced to separate the two groups to avoid violence. One protestor on the Palestinian side was filmed holding up his mobile phone with a picture of a Nazi swastika.
To the north, in Canada, pro-Palestinian protests were held in Ottawa and Montreal. The Palestinian Youth Movement organized a demonstration that saw some 100 demonstrators gather at the Human Rights Monument near Ottawa’s downtown area. They waved Palestinian flags and held placards with slogans like “End Zionist colonization of Palestine now” and “Respect existence or expect resistance.” Hundreds of demonstrators marched through the streets of downtown Montreal holding signs that read: “Free Palestine” and “Resistance until liberation,” among other things.
In Ontario, men in vehicles were recorded celebrating the attacks in the parking lot of a strip mall.
In an open letter addressed to the police chiefs of four of Canada’s largest cities, Jewish leaders urged for a resolute and uncompromising stance on putting an end to the celebrations witnessed over the past two days.
Part of the letter reads:
Hamas is a listed terrorist entity that is currently murdering, assaulting, and kidnapping dozens of children and civilians. These rallies are showing material support for a terrorist organization that has no respect for Canadian values. We, the undersigned, demand that these rallies in support of these heinous crimes be stopped. This is a matter of public safety.
