A local publicly funded Polish television station, TVP Poznań, recently broadcast the first episode of what is to be a weekly new series solely dedicated to the promotion of LGBT and gender ideologies, according to conservative-Christian outlet Polonia Christiana.
Following the election of the new left-liberal government in December, the new regime quickly moved to purge publicly funded media of its conservatives on grounds they had ties to the conservative PiS party.
As expected, said purge, in which conservatives saw themselves replaced by those more amenable to leftist orthodoxy, is now being reflected in the programming of public television. Messaging, especially in news shows, Polonia Christiana said, began to “strongly favor the government and promote topics that appealed to people with liberal and leftist ‘sensitivities.’”
The series kicked off with an episode featuring the debut guest, a drag queen performing under the stage name ‘Twój Stara’ (‘Your Old Mom’), who elaborated on his motivations for participating in the LGBT movement and his experiences as a drag queen.
‘Twój Stara’ said he sees the growing number of drag queens as a sign that LGBT promotion is “progressing.”
“There’s really a lot of Polish drag out there, in different places,” said the activist, highlighting how easily the subculture can be accessed through Spotify, streaming services, social media channels—and now public television, for which he was “grateful.”
The program concluded with remarks from its host Mateusz Sulwiński, who expressed the hope the discussion had enlightened viewers about drag culture and its significance.
Sulwiński is an LGBT activist associated with LGBT charity and lobby group Stonewall, the largest in Europe.
Anna Bryłka and Jacek Wilk, Confederation party candidates for the European Parliament, have publicly opposed the use of public funds—in what is still a very traditionally-minded Catholic country—to promote LGBT values and drag queens on TVP Poznań, criticizing the Stonewall Group’s agenda in particular.
They argue that this includes promoting harmful ideologies, such as irreversible gender transition among minors, which leads not only to regret but also severely adverse medical outcomes. At a press conference, the politicians declared:
The Stonewall Group is known for its harmful propositions of LGBT ideology, which include, among other things, introducing marriage equality for homosexual unions, adoption rights for homosexual couples, and a straightforward process for gender transition. We already know from the experiences of Western European countries that young people who underwent transitions as minors later regret this decision—these are irreversible decisions.
Recently, several medical studies indicate that hormone treatments for young people lack a scientific basis and that the risks outweigh the benefits, as the Cass report, published last April, showed that children who think they are transgender frequently have mental health issues that require counseling, not a medical intervention.
