New figures from the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office have revealed that—by far—political Islamism poses the greatest terrorist threat to the German homeland, contradicting disinformation propagated by Germany’s hardline globalist interior minister who falsely claims so-called ‘right-wing extremism’ represents the most significant security threat to the country.
Of the 800 terrorist investigations initiated by the Federal Public Prosecutor’s office between January 1st, 2020, and July 1st of this year, 757 of these investigations were related to Islamist terrorism, accounting for an astonishing 95% of the office’s terrorism-related investigations, the German newspaper Welt am Sonntag reports.
In the same period, the prosecutor’s office initiated 26 procedures in the area of right-wing terrorism and 17 in the area of left-wing terrorism, representing a mere 3.25% and 2.13% of the office’s terror-related investigations, respectively.
This year alone, the Terrorism Department of the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office has launched 215 cases, 127 of which relate to Islamist terrorism, 9 to right-wing terrorism, and none to left-wing terrorism. The remaining cases fell into other categories.
Furthermore, the vast majority of charges pursued by federal prosecutors since the beginning of 2020 have related to Islamist terrorism, with 37 charges leveled against Islamists, 19 against right-wing extremists, and 4 against left-wing extremists.
Commenting on the figures, Federal Attorney General Peter Frank said that “Islamist-motivated terrorism not only dominates our work in terms of numbers. Various procedures also show that the danger from Islamist attacks in Germany persists.”
The numbers clearly repudiate the deceitful thesis put forward by Germany’s hard-Left activist interior minister who—in an attempt to justify ramped-up repression against the center-Right and right-wing opposition—falsely claims the country’s most pressing security threat is right-wing extremism.
Following her appointment late last year, then Interior Minister-designate Nancy Faeser (SPD), who wrote for a far-Left extremist magazine shortly before, identified the Right as responsible for the majority of German terrorist threats: “It will be of particular concern to me to combat the greatest threat that our free democratic basic order currently faces: right-wing extremism.”
While Faeser’s grossly inaccurate—and quite possibly deliberately misleading—rhetoric has been called out from the very beginning by members of the anti-globalist Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) party, more recently, some politicians from the establishment Christlich Demokratische Union Deutschlands (CDU) have also criticized the interior minister’s activist orientation.
During an interview last month with Der Spiegel, Thorsten Frei, the first parliamentary secretary of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group, noted that it was “high time Minister Faeser take off her ideological glasses and face the challenges across the board.”
