One in five young people in Spain had fake nude images of themselves generated using artificial intelligence (AI) and shared online without their consent while they were still minors, according to a new study by Save the Children.
The report also found that 97% of respondents had experienced some form of online sexual abuse before the age of 18. The findings are based on a survey of more than 1,000 individuals aged 18 to 21, conducted between March and April this year in collaboration with the European Digital Transition Partnership.
Save the Children said the research aims to highlight the scale of online sexual abuse targeting minors in Spain and the increasing role of digital technologies in enabling such abuse.
