Official Tehran sources claim to have seen a draft memorandum of understanding with Washington which would stop the conflict between the two nations and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has floated an outline of what it says the United States has to offer in a possible peace deal should hostilities between the two countries end in a ceasefire.

Perhaps in response to President Donald Trump’s promise of ‘a Great Deal for all, or no Deal at all,’ Iran envisages an agreement where it allows non-military shipping passage through the Strait of Hormuz. In return, U.S. forces would be withdrawn from the general vicinity of Iran.

The contents of the proposed framework seem to have been drawn, if not leaked, from negotiations in which Pakistan has been a central mediator. If accepted, they would leave Iran (and Oman) managing the key strategic waterway.

Iranian state television has made no apparent mention of the country’s nuclear ambitions in its coverage of the so-called draft memorandum of understanding.
