Jewish students at the University of Amsterdam have launched a hotline called ‘L’Chaim’ to report antisemitism. Co-founder Avigail Asuss said many Jewish students feel unsafe, isolated, and excluded at the university, especially since the October 7 pogrom.
Avigail Asuss shared examples of antisemitism at the university, including death threats after being identified as Jewish-Israeli and hateful messages in a student chat.
The L’Chaim hotline collects antisemitism reports from Jewish students and passes them to the university’s Executive Board, aiming to push for strong measures if needed.
The University of Amsterdam said it has taken steps to protect Jewish students, including addressing unacceptable behavior, improving responses to reports, and increasing support and security. Students are encouraged to keep reporting incidents.
