Migrants are reported to have choked, punched, and brain-injured a Belgian former international midfielder.

A retired Belgian footballer is reportedly fighting for his life after being attacked by at least one migrant—who accused him of racism.

Karel Snoeckx, 52, was attacked on Saturday, July 4th while out driving with his wife and pregnant daughter. After tooting his car horn at two pedestrians, a man and a woman, behaving dangerously, he was accused of racism, punched in the face, and put in a chokehold—before having his head stomped on repeatedly. Resuscitated on-site by his son-in-law for 20 minutes, he was placed in an artificial coma at AZ Turnhout hospital with suspected brain damage.

A 35-year-old man, reportedly from a migrant background, has been arrested and charged with attempted homicide. The attack echoes the recent fatal attack on Swedish football supporter and off-duty police officer Christian Zedig, beaten to death by African migrants while watching the FIFA World Cup at a fan zone in Copenhagen.

Snoeckx won the Belgian league with Lierse SK in 1997 and also played once for the Belgian national team.
