Power is expected to be restored to all customers on Thursday afternoon, Stromnetz Berlin said.

A fire on a bridge across the Teltow Canal in south-western Berlin damaged high-voltage cables, leaving thousands of households without power until January 8, grid company Stromnetz Berlin informed on Saturday, January 3rd. More than 2,000 businesses were also affected, with mobile phone services and landlines also impacted.

Berlin police said they are investigating the incident, which took place early in the day, as a possible arson attack.

According to Stromnetz, the power supply in parts of the Steglitz and Zehlendorf districts is currently interrupted. The company said “Initial resupply operations, particularly in Lichterfelde, took place during the night of 3/4 January 2026. Power is expected to be restored to all customers on Thursday afternoon, 8 January 2026.”
