Two activists from the protest group ‘New Generation’ were arrested on Monday, July 7th, after smearing red paint on the facade of the Federal Chancellery in Berlin. The demonstration targeted Germany’s continued arms exports to Israel.

According to Berlin police, the activists used their hands to apply red paint on the building and sat down, holding banners reading “Dirty work—bloody” and “Stop genocide—no German complicity.” The New Generation group, which evolved from the climate protest movement Letzte Generation, confirmed their involvement in the action.

Berlin police have launched an investigation into politically motivated property damage and a violation of Berlin’s assembly law. A police spokesperson confirmed that both activists are currently in custody.
