“Surrender is not an option,” Dodik declared as commenting on being formally stripped of the presidency of the Republika Srpska.

A Bosnian court has commuted Milorad Dodik’s jail sentence.

Previously sentenced to a year’s imprisonment—and slapped with a six-year ban on holding political office—Dodik’s incarceration has been replaced with a €18,660 fine. The proposal, from the former Republika Srpska president’s defence team, was accepted by the Bosnian state court on Tuesday, August 12.

On August 1, Dodik was convicted of defying, with intent, the decisions of High Representative, Christian Schmidt, back in July 2023.

Still barred from holding office in the Republika Srpska, Dodik is likely to appeal. He described the Central Election Commission’s input into the case, stripping him of the presidency, as “more bullshit from Sarajevo.” “Surrender is not an option,” he added.

As Dodik told EuropeanConservtive.com during earlier this year, Schmidt “made criminal laws according to which I, elected by the will of the people, was tried for an act that I committed exercising my constitutional powers.”
