Croatia is under pressure from the Council of Europe’s anti-racism commission to conform to the official ideology, following a report published on Monday, June 16th.

The Council of Europe’s European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI) says it is concerned at the level of prejudice against “LGBTQ+” people, along with multiple ethnic and national minority groups, claiming

Hate speech, particularly against Roma, ethnic Serbs and LGBTI people, remains pervasive in public events, online spaces, and political discourse.

While welcoming the relative improvement of the situation of the Roma community, it cites  the ‘problem’ of a complex—i.e. deliberative—legal process for gender (identity) recognition as an example of prejudice. The report does not seem to acknowledge the contradiction between an emphasis on having migrant and Roma integration strategies and wanting to nationalise local schemes that promote diversity.
