The European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) group has criticised the UK government after a Polish MEP was barred from entering the country ahead of the Unite the Kingdom demonstration in London.
In a post on X, the ECR wrote: “You don’t protect free speech by silencing the people you disagree with. The UK Government revoked ECR MEP Dominik Tarczyński’s visa and claimed it was done to safeguard free speech in Britain.”
Dominik Tarczyński, a member of Poland’s Law and Justice party, has threatened legal action against UK prime minister Keir Starmer following the decision. He was among several right-wing commentators and activists affected by travel restrictions linked to the rally organised by Tommy Robinson.
The UK Home Office confirmed that seven individuals had their electronic travel authorisations either cancelled or refused. Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood said the decisions were taken on the grounds that their presence was “not conducive to the public good.”
