Germany’s Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt has announced that he banned the Islamist association Muslim Interaktiv, declaring that the group stands in opposition to the constitutional order and the core values of the German Basic Law. The organization’s assets will be confiscated and authorities have carried out searches in Berlin, Hamburg and Hesse, targeting properties linked to the extremist group, as well as the related organizations Generation Islam and Realität Islam.
Dobrindt emphasized a zero-tolerance approach, stating
Anyone who aggressively calls for the Caliphate on our streets, incites hatred against the State of Israel and Jews, and despises the rights of women and minorities will be prosecuted with the full force of the law.
The ban follows an Islamist demonstration in Hamburg in April 2024, organized by Muslim Interaktiv, where around 1,200 participants demanded the establishment of an Islamic caliphate. Dobrindt stressed that such movements would not be allowed to “undermine our free society, despise our democracy, and attack our country from within.”
The minister has already drawn the ire of liberal and LGBT groups after announcing his intention to end the rainbow flags on federal buildings.
