Hungary’s incoming prime minister, Péter Magyar, sharply criticised state media during appearances on Kossuth Radio and M1, announcing that one of the first steps of a new government would be to suspend its services.

Condemning “propaganda media” that had caused serious harm to society, he also insisted that “there is no revenge or personal vendetta” behind the plan.

The interviews were marked by tension, as the host challenged Magyar’s claim that he had not previously been invited, stating he had received continuous invitations. Magyar rejected this, saying:

I will not take part in this game.

On key policy issues, Magyar avoided giving clear answers. Asked whether his government would maintain cheap fuel and energy prices, he gave an evasive response—despite earlier campaign promises—including a proposed fuel price cap.

He later repeated his intention to overhaul the state media system, while denying he would interfere directly in its operation.

Magyar also held talks with President Tamás Sulyok, stating: “I had a roughly forty-minute discussion with President Tamás Sulyok.” He said the president informed him that, as leader of the party receiving the most votes, he would be nominated for prime minister.

He added that the new National Assembly could be formed in early May, with its inaugural session potentially taking place on May 6th–7th, and that negotiations on parliamentary committees would begin soon. Magyar emphasised: “It is in the interest of the Hungarian people that this agreement is reached.”
