Predictions abound that another Israeli offensive against Iran could commence before the end of the year, potentially more extensive and complex than the previous operation in June.

Former Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has warned that Iran remains in a state of “no war, no peace” following the recent 12-day conflict with Israel, saying the country currently lacks any “broad deterrent effect” in the region.

Unfortunately, we do not have widespread deterrence at present. The territories of our neighboring countries, such as Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, and Jordan, are effectively at the disposal of the U.S. and Israel.

The Iraqi newspaper Baghdad Al-Youm also reported a significant increase in U.S. military assistance to Israel. Citing Iranian sources, the paper said Washington has upgraded the quality of weapons supplied to Israel in recent months and is moving forward with a contract worth more than $10 billion for the delivery of penetrating munitions and advanced surveillance systems.

Rouhani, a so-called reformist who served as president from 2013 to 2021, added:

Israel moves freely along our borders, in space and in the sky. … The Iranian sky has become completely safe for the enemy.

While Iranian regime sources are not to be trusted, its claims offer insights into the ruling clique’s current mentality.
