According to the Israeli military, it commenced “limited ground operations” against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon on Monday, March 16th.
Typical Israel Defense Forces (IDF) strikes combine artillery and the Israeli Air Force against terrorist targets. They add teeth to the Lebanese government’s decision to ban Hezbollah’s military and security activities, announced two weeks ago.
The move follows renewed hostile activity from Tehran’s proxies Hezbollah, which responded with force to the killing of Iranian supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in US-Israeli strikes.
An official statement summarised the initiative in the following terms:
In recent days, IDF troops from the 91st division have begun limited and targeted ground operations against key Hezbollah strongholds in southern Lebanon, aimed at enhancing the forward defence area.
While Beirut prepares a delegation to negotiate with Israel, the Jewish State aims to prevent Hezbollah terrorists from firing missiles into its northern territories.
