The Public Prosecutor’s Office has opened an attempted manslaughter investigation, following an early-morning shooting in the capital.

Authorities confirmed that multiple shots were fired on Boulevard du Midi in Brussels around 1 a.m. on Monday, October 6th.

Initial reports indicate that a suspect discharged a firearm and then fled the area, with no injuries reported so far.

Police quickly secured the area, establishing a perimeter to allow investigators and specialists to carry out the investigations. The Brussels Public Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation on suspicion of attempted manslaughter.

Official spokesperson Laura Demullier stated that multiple bullet impacts were found on vehicles and the facade of a nearby house. The weapon was recovered shortly after the incident in a nearby park.

This latest incident comes just days after another firearm was fired in Saint-Gilles, a notoriously dangerous district, last week. While nobody was injured in that case either, it highlighted the city’s growing public safety concerns.

Brussels has seen a notable rise in firearms incidents this year. Between January and September, authorities recorded 57 shootings, 20 of them concentrated in the summer months alone. Recent events, including a September shooting that left a 19-year-old critically injured in central Brussels, underscore that violence is spreading beyond traditionally troubled neighborhoods.
