Israel and Lebanon are expected to hold talks in Washington next week, according to a State Department official.

Pakistan is preparing to host Iranian and U.S. delegations for negotiations in Islamabad—although Tehran’s participation remains uncertain following renewed military strikes in the region.

The planned talks are under pressure thanks to strained relations between Israel and Lebanon, which threaten a fragile ceasefire involving Washington and Tehran.

Security preparations have been stepped up in the Pakistani capital, with the luxury hotel expected to host the delegations cleared of guests. The discussions are expected to focus on several sensitive issues, including Iran’s nuclear enrichment programme and the flow of trade through the strategic Strait of Hormuz maritime chokepoint.

Iran has indicated that its attendance may depend on developments in Lebanon. Esmaeil Baqaei, spokesman for Iran’s foreign ministry, said the continuation of talks is linked to the United States adhering to ceasefire commitments, particularly regarding Lebanon. He added that, if participation is confirmed, the composition of the Iranian delegation will be announced later.

Despite uncertainty, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards signalled their commitment to the ceasefire.

Separately, Israel and Lebanon are expected to hold talks in Washington next week, according to a U.S. State Department official:

We can confirm that the Department will host a meeting next week to discuss ongoing ceasefire negotiations with Israel and Lebanon.

Neither Israel nor the Lebanese government have publicly confirmed these talks, although the announcement came shortly after Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered his ministers to seek direct dialogue with Lebanon.
