According to a new poll, close to half of those surveyed would like to see the current prime minister gone.

Just days before Karol Nawrocki’s presidential inauguration, a new poll has revealed that nearly half of respondents are calling for the resignation of Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

“In your opinion, should Donald Tusk resign and cease to serve as Prime Minister of the government?” asked a United Surveys poll. The results show 48.6% of those surveyed believe Tusk should step down.

The findings highlight the dividedness of Polish society following the surprise June victory of president-elect Karol Nawrocki, backed by the conservative Law and Justice party (PiS), over Civic Platform’s Rafał Trzaskowski, who had been widely considered the frontrunner.

Tusk has been under mounting pressure since Nawrocki’s win. The Prime Minister attempted to regain political momentum through a government reshuffle, replacing several ministers. However, criticism persists over the coalition’s failure to deliver on key promises made during the 2023 general election campaign.

Karol Nawrocki will officially take office on August 6th, marking the end of Andrzej Duda’s decade-long presidency. Significant government policy changes appear tough to make under Nawrocki’s presidency, as the coalition lacks the parliamentary majority needed to override a presidential veto.
