Moscow suggested European drone producers could be considered legitimate military targets, prompting the Czech government to summon Russia’s ambassador.

Moscow has officially designated several European UAV manufacturers—including Czech firms—as potential military targets. In turn, Czechia’s Foreign Ministry summoned the Russian ambassador, Alexander Zmeyevsky, on Monday April 20th.

This follows explicit threats from the deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council and former president Dmitry Medvedev. The Ministry lodged a formal protest against what it termed an “unacceptable escalation” targeting private companies and a blatant disregard for international law.

The Czech Foreign Ministry stated:

It was emphasized that Russia’s war against Ukraine has led to a serious deterioration of the security situation in Europe. All forms of assistance provided by the Czech Republic to Ukraine are firmly anchored in international law.
