Russia’s president Vladimir Putin has been invited to participate in his U.S. counterpart Donald Trump’s “Board of Peace,” the Kremlin reported on Monday, January 19th.
Designed to resolve conflicts globally and oversee governance and reconstruction in Gaza, the White House confirmed that the advisory forum will be chaired by Trump himself.
It will bring together American and international political figures to provide guidance on post-war governance.
According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, Moscow is seeking to clarify the details of the invitation with Washington. The Kremlin has not yet indicated whether President Putin intends to join the initiative.
Putin has previously praised Trump’s efforts to resolve conflicts, stating last October
He’s really doing a lot to resolve these complex crises, which have lasted for years, even decades.
Referring to the situation in the Middle East, Putin stated:
If we succeed in achieving everything Donald has strived for … it will be a historic event.
Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orbán announced on social media that he will join the Board of Peace initiative. The Hungarian government has stressed repeatedly its support for diplomatic solutions over armed conflict and its willingness to take part in international peace initiatives.
The board is expected to include members of Trump’s inner circle, including Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and former presidential adviser Jared Kushner, as well as representatives of Middle Eastern countries such as Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey. Experienced international politicians and diplomats, including U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and former British prime minister Tony Blair, are also expected to participate.
