Monday, September 15th, saw U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio promise Israel to maintain “maximum pressure” on Iran to prevent it from developing a nuclear weapon.
This follows a short conflict in June that saw the U.S. and Israel strike Iranian nuclear sites. Rubio told a joint news conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu
A nuclear Iran governed by a radical Shiite cleric that possesses not just nuclear weapons potentially but the missiles that could deliver those weapons far away is an unacceptable risk, not just for Israel, not just for the U.S., but for the world.
Netanyahu—who has long warned of a threat from the Islamic Republic—launched the military action in June in which Israeli forces both targeted nuclear and conventional military sites.
“The decision by President Trump to target the nuclear facilities of Iran was not merely a militarily wise thing to do,” Netanyahu said, adding
It was also a message to the entire world that the U.S. acts to defend its interests and defend its allies, and America has no better ally than Israel.
Following the conflict, Iran agreed to cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency—unlike North Korea.
