Tuesday, November 18th saw Russia blast France for fuelling war by signing a deal which could potentially provide up to 100 Rafale fighter aircraft to Ukraine.

During a visit by Volodymyr Zelensky to Paris on November 17th France’s President Emmanuel Macron and his Ukrainian counterpart signed a letter of intent setting out a promise of future weapons supplies. France has delivered Mirage fighter aircraft to Kyiv, but until now there had been no talk of Ukraine acquiring the Rafale, the crown jewel of French combat aviation.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters

Paris is in no way contributing to peace, but rather fuelling militaristic and pro-war sentiment.

Throughout the war, Russia has berated NATO countries for supplying arms to Ukraine and said they make no difference on the battlefield.

“No matter what aircraft are sold to the Kiev regime, this will not change the situation on the front lines and cannot change the dynamics,” Peskov added.
