An overnight barrage marks one of the deadliest attacks on western Ukraine in recent months, hitting residential areas and critical infrastructure.

A Russian attack on the western Ukrainian city of Ternopil overnight has killed nine people and injured dozens more.

President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that residential nine-storey buildings were hit, sharing images of the destroyed blocks shrouded in smoke. He warned that people may still be trapped under the rubble.

Additional injuries were reported in the Kharkiv and Ivano-Frankivsk regions as Russia intensified assaults on civilian areas and critical infrastructure ahead of winter.

The bombardment comes during a period of political upheaval in Kyiv, where Justice Minister German Galushchenko and Energy Minister Svitlana Grynchuk resigned as part of a widening corruption scandal.

The strike follows another deadly incident two days earlier when a Russian missile hit the eastern city of Balakliia on November 17th, killing three people, according to Kharkiv regional authorities.
