Gabbard stepped down citing her husband’s cancer diagnosis

U.S. intelligence chief Tulsi Gabbard announced her resignation on Friday, ending a tenure marked by tensions with President Donald Trump over the Iran war.

Gabbard, 45, said she was stepping down as director of national intelligence to care for her husband, Abraham Williams, after he was diagnosed with an “extremely rare form of bone cancer.”

“He faces major challenges in the coming weeks and months,” Gabbard wrote in a letter to Trump posted on X.

Trump praised Gabbard, saying she had done “an incredible job,” and announced that deputy director Aaron Lukas would serve as acting intelligence chief.

The White House denied reports that Gabbard had been pushed out over disagreements with the administration.
