Congress making available thousands of emails could shine a bipartisan spotlight on the disgraced paedophile’s political connections.

U.S. president Donald Trump has requested that his supporters in the House of Representatives vote to make the ‘Epstein files’ public. He took to Truth Social on the night of Sunday, October 16th, posting

House Republicans should vote to release the Epstein files, because we have nothing to hide,

The House is likely to vote this week on forcing the Justice Department to make public around 2,324 email threads (‘the files’) between the late financier and convicted criminal Jeffrey Epstein and various associates, including his co-conspirator Ghislaine Maxwell.

Legislation—called the Epstein Files Transparency Act—would lead to the availability of all the unclassified records, documents, communications, and investigative materials related to the deceased paedophile.

Whereas previously Trump has treated the issue as one which partisan Democrats were using against him, his change of emphasis is being presented as a way to ‘clear the air’ on the question, while maintaining GOP unity.

Separately, Democrats may also face difficulties where their own representatives appear in the ‘files.’ What Trump calls “various Democrat operatives”—including former president Bill Clinton and former secretary of state Hillary Clinton—have already faced subpoenas from the U.S. House Oversight Committee designed to investigate whether the federal government adequately enforced laws on sex trafficking, including against Epstein and Maxwell.
