Iran showed no sign of backing down on Tuesday, April 7th as a U.S.-imposed deadline approached for reopening the strategic Strait of Hormuz, defying strong warnings from President Donald Trump.
President Trump made clear that failure to comply would bring severe consequences. He warned that unless Tehran allows free passage through the vital oil chokepoint by midnight GMT Tuesday, the United States is prepared to launch the “complete demolition” of Iran’s critical infrastructure.
Trump stated that key targets, including bridges and power plants, could be destroyed within hours if necessary.
Iranian officials rejected the ultimatum, with the army dismissing Trump’s statements as “arrogant rhetoric and baseless threats.” Military leaders insisted that operations against American and Israeli forces would continue.
Fighting across the region intensified overnight. Israel carried out a new wave of air strikes targeting the Iranian “terror regime infrastructure” in Tehran and surrounding areas. Iranian media reported explosions in both Tehran and nearby Karaj.
At the same time, Iran missile and drone attacks continued to target neighbouring Gulf Cooperation Council member states.
