The no-confidence motion was brought forward by Romanian nationalist MEP Gheorghe Piperea and backed by conservative and nationalist forces.

A motion of censure against European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and her team failed in the European Parliament on Thursday. Only 175 MEPs supported the motion, while 360 voted against and 18 abstained.

The result highlights divisions in the Parliament. Right-wing groups such as the Patriots for Europe and the Europe of Sovereign Nations, plus many of The European Conservatives and Reformists and some left-wing delegations backed the motion, while the Socialists and Democrats supported her in return for budget-related commitments.
