The city of Basel hosted 200,000 visitors for its yodeling festival over the weekend.

Basel experienced record temperatures of 39 degrees Celsius over the weekend when around 12,000 performers and nearly 200,000 visitors traveled to the Swiss city for the Eidgenössisches Jodlerfest, Switzerland’s national yodeling festival. It was the first time since 1924 that the northwestern Swiss city had hosted the popular event.

Passersby loved the performance: at one fountain, a folk music group dipped their feet in the water while performing as festival-goers cheered and clapped. Spontaneous yodeling echoed through restaurants, where guests were at first surprised and then joined in with the singers.

Swiss yodeling was inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in December 2025.
