Public frustration with Austrian migration policy is mounting as trust in the ruling coalition continues to erode.

A vast majority of Austrians are demanding tougher action on migration, with overwhelming support for deportations—even to unsafe countries of origin—amid the ÖVP-SPÖ-NEOS coalition’s cautious approach to asylum policy.

According to a poll conducted by Unique Research for Der Pragmaticus, 85% of Austrians back sending convicted criminals back to their home countries, regardless of safety concerns. Only 12% of respondents expressed satisfaction with the government’s current asylum and migration policies.

The data highlights deep frustration among the public: roughly one-third said they are “not at all satisfied” with asylum policy, while nearly 20% described themselves as “rather dissatisfied.” Another third remain undecided.

Despite the strong criticism of asylum policy, and Brussels’s handling of migration, support for Austria’s membership in the European Union remains stable.
