Attempts by the Left to silence calls for tougher border control are failing—and may even be fuelling demand for stricter migration policies.

Most recently, four left-wing groups in the European Parliament tried to censure a conservative MEP for saying “the era of deportations has begun,” branding the remark a “reference to the Holocaust.”

Instead, the backlash has amplified Charlie Weimers’ remarks, pushing them further into the spotlight—and the Sweden Democrats politician has doubled down, continuing the line with even greater confidence.

Weimers told Sverigebilden on Wednesday that last month’s green-lighting in the European Parliament of stricter detention and deportation plans was “the biggest Sweden Democrats’ negotiating success ever,” adding:

We have started to turn the Titanic around. So it’s not going to be easy, it’s not going to be quick, but now European migration policy is finally changing.

And when two Irish sisters were allegedly stabbed last week after rejecting the advance of a Somali man, Weimers posted on social media: “Don’t come telling me that ‘deportation rhetoric’ is the problem here.”

Conservatives will continue this push for migrant returns at a demonstration in Milan next Saturday, April 18th, organised by the Patriots group in the European Parliament, which says that “defending borders means defending Europe.”

“They won’t stop us,” said Italian MEP Isabella Tovaglieri, adding that citizens must “loudly demand a serious and concrete European remigration plan.”

Italy’s right-wing populist Lega party added that voter action was necessary to “defend the values of the West” and “our culture.”
